Ruth’s work combines evidence-informed decision-making and participatory approaches and spans the boundaries between research, policy and practice. She has conducted a number of research projects for government departments and is currently working on research funded by the Department for International Development and Value for Money Audit.
At the University of London, she is a key member of the Social Science Research Unit’s Perspectives, Participation and Research programme and the Unit’s Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and Co-ordinating Centre (the EPPI-Centre). Ruth started at the Unit in 2000 having completed a degree in Anthropology at Cambridge and worked on research projects in rural South Africa. Since then she has worked with service users, practitioners and policy-makers across health, education, social care and public policy, enabling stakeholders to contribute to the decisions which effect them.
At the University of Johannesburg, she is a Research Fellow within the Centre for Anthopological Research where she is working with Prof Thea de Wet and Carina van Rooyen to establish the Collaboration for Environmental Evidence’s Johannesburg Centre.
